Problem Solving Competitions

High School Problem Solving Competition

The ninth annual High School Problem Solving Competition will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 5:25-7:35 PM. All high school students are eligible to participate.

Contestants are given 5-6 problems for 2 hours. This competition is not multiple choice; full solutions/proofs are expected. The first place winner is invited to participate in the Adnan H. Sabuwala PSC. The top three scorers will be recognized at the Department of Mathematics Day, date to be determined, and awarded prizes.

Adnan H. Sabuwala Problem Solving Competition

The sixth annual Adnan H. Sabuwala Problem Solving Competition was held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 5:25-7:35 PM. All Fresno State students (including part-time and high school students taking classes at Fresno State this semester) were eligible to participate.

Dr. Adnan H. Sabuwala was a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics from 2008-2019. He was passionate about mathematics problem solving and promoting problem solving competitions for students of all ages. This competition is held in his honor.

Contestants are given 5-6 problems for 2 hours. This competition is not multiple choice; full solutions/proofs are expected. The top three scorers were recognized at the Department of Mathematics Day, that was held on Friday, November 22, 2024, and awarded prizes.
