Teaching Student-Centered Mathematics 2020

Introductory activities including California State Standards for Mathematics and the
eight Standards for Mathematical Practice followed by a demonstration class and immersed
lesson for participating teachers.
Week of June 15 - June 19
Each day participating teachers will have an opportunity to observe demonstration
classes in grades 4-5, 5-6, 6-9, and 9-12, with pre-lesson discussion and post-lesson
debrief. Also, teachers will have an opportunity to observe how students engage in
outdoor activities and use computer software in their learning process.
Learn through observation and detailed discussion on how following mathematical practices are implemented in the classroom.
- Standard 1: Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
- Standard 2: Reason abstractly and quantitatively
- Standard 3: Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
- Standard 4: Model with mathematics
- Standard 5: Use appropriate tools strategically
- Standard 6: Attend to precision
- Standard 7: Look for and make use of structure
- Standard 8: Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning

Cost
Please ask your School/District to support you by paying the registration fee of $725
($825 if registering after May 15).

If you are interested in participating in our Teaching Student-Centered Mathematics
workshop, please complete the registration form and submit it. You will be contacted
through email by the workshop administration with further information.

Units
On the first day of the workshop you will have the opportunity to sign up to earn
3 units of university credit (professional development, CI 180T) for an additional
$75/unit.
Stipend
After participating and completing this workshop you will receive a $250 stipend.
