Conferences

A crucial aspect of doing research is the ability to present the findings in a concise fashion. Making your research accessible to others not necessarily versed in your research topic can be difficult and requires practice. There are several conferences with sessions specifically designed for undergraduate and graduate students.

The Pacific Coast Undergraduate Mathematics Conference

The Pacific Coast Undergraduate Mathematics Conference ( www.pcumc-math.org) is a one-day event associated with Pi Day, and is held each year somewhere in coastal California. This year the location is going to be Pepperdine University, in Malibu. Travel support is available for a limited number of students, those presenting given preference. If you are interested in attending this year s conference, contact Dr. Forgacs (PB 356, tforgacs@csufresno.edu)

The AMS-MAA Joint Meetings

The AMS-MAA Joint Meetings ( www.ams.org/meetings) is the big meeting each year, with attendance usually near two to three thousand. There is an undergraduate poster session each year at this conference. We had our students present posters at this conference for the last two years, and we are planning on taking more students there this year. Travel support may be available for students presenting, application deadline for such is October 1. Please contact your research advisor.

The Central California Research Symposium

The Central California Research Symposium is a conference held at California State University, Fresno each year in the spring. The conference showcases research done at CSUF in all departments. The presentations are usually judged, with various prizes awarded.

The Missouri Valley Economic Association Annual Meeting

Missouri Valley Economic Association Annual Meeting is a conference perfectly suited for students doing research in mathematical economics or statistics. At this conference your research will receive feedback from a discussant as well as from the participants. This conference also has designated sessions for undergraduate and graduate students with cash prizes for the best two papers.
