Department of Biology
The Greenhouse Facility
The Department of Biology Greenhouse Complex covers ~1 acre including greenhouse and outdoor space to support the teaching and research activities of the Department. In association with the C.H. Quibell Herbarium, the Greenhouse Complex supports education in plant biology by maintaining a variety of living plant collections including tropical and dryland species as well as smaller collections of orchids and carnivorous species. The grounds of the Complex include planting of species native to the Central Valley and surrounding foothills of the Sierras and a pond supporting a range of aquatic and wetland species. Additional resources supporting the Department’s research activities include seven Conviron growth chambers and greenhouse space with controlled illumination, temperature, and watering capabilities. The Department maintains close cooperation with the Department of Plant Science and others in the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology as well as the University maintained campus arboretum to support education and research in plant biology.
