During my undergraduate studies, I conducted research in Dr. Kalyani Maitra's peptide
research laboratory, where I synthesized peptides with the potential to inhibit the
aggregation of proteins associated with Alzheimer's disease and investigated their
structural properties. I later continued my research under Dr. Maitra’s algae lab
while pursuing my Master of Science degree, graduating with distinction. My graduate
research focused on exploring the use of wild algae in the Central Valley as a feedstock
for the production of biofuels and valuable bioproducts. Through these research experiences,
I developed a strong foundation in biochemistry.
Throughout my graduate studies, I served as a Teaching Associate for CHEM 1A laboratory
courses. In this role, I mentored undergraduate students and guided them through laboratory
experiments, helping them develop practical laboratory skills and a deeper understanding
of fundamental chemistry concepts. Teaching reinforced my passion and commitment to
science education and therefore, I strive to create an engaging and inclusive learning
environment.
