Research Infrastructure in Minority Institutions
About
The National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NCMHD), a Center of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), awarded a $4.5 million (5-year) grant to Fresno State for the support of infrastructure development to conduct biomedical and behavioral research addressing issues related to health disparities in the Central Valley. This RIMI (Research Infrastructure in Minority Institutions) grant, led by Dean Susan Elrod, has helped establish a state-of-the-art shared resource facility. This facility includes instrumental support in the areas of proteomics, functional genomics, and bioinformatics to nurture cutting- edge biomedical research in the Central Valley.
Two fully funded independent projects under the RIMI auspices that focused on biomedical/behavioral
research needs of the Central California are:
1. Cancer Proteomics and the Relevance to Pesticide
Exposure in Hispanic Farm Workers (Dr. Jason Bush,
Biology)
2. Cultural Differences in Marital Care Giving
Interactions in Alzheimer's Disease (Dr. Amanda
Mortimer, Psychology)
