Supporting All Students for
The College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) Advising and Resources Center (ARC) is an innovative academic program designed to improve “student success” – a primary mission of Fresno State. ARC is comprised of professional advisor/counselors, counseling interns, peer advisors, and clerical staff who are all committed to supporting students and to helping them achieve success by:
- Establishing a positive relationship with students, faculty, and staff based upon trust and respect - maintaining a positive regard for all individuals;
- Being readily available to assist all CSM students throughout the entire year;
- Maintaining and providing accurate information about the various majors under the College of Science and Mathematics;
- Assisting students to access available academic resources;
- Developing programs (i.e. workshops, STEM career fairs, and parent conferences) that will enhance the student academic experience as well as career preparation;
- Working together with our faculty to assure student success;
- Valuing the diversity of our student population;
- Maintaining ethical practices;
- Proactively assisting students who may be “at risk” (i.e. directing them to use tutoring, supplemental instruction, and other resources) within their respective majors;
- Implementing best practices in advising;
- Building, maintaining, and nurturing a dynamic community of students, faculty, and staff; and
- Working in collaboration with all CSM departments and across-campus student services to improve or enhance the coordination of services.
