Premed Advising

Building an Autobiography

The autobiography is required on some secondary applications. An abbreviated version can be given to a reference as background for a recommendation letter.

This is a self written account of one's life. Describe those events, both general and specific, that have happened to you or around you. Identify individuals who have played key roles in your life. Particular attention should be paid to those events or individuals that have brought you, either physically and/or psychologically, to where you are today. This may include various obstacles that have been overcome or the assimilation of major cultural or economic changes. A well-formed autobiographical statement is critical for applicants of ethnic and/or economic consideration. It is also the foundation of a well-written personal statement.
