Geosciences METRO Center
2014 USDA Program
A number of paid research opportunities are available in several labs at Fresno State,
USDA (Parlier) and the National Forest Service (Fresno). Students will be trained
and will carry out research to investigate impacts of climate change on and by agriculture
under the guidance of an experienced research mentor. Projects include flux measurements
of greenhouse gases from agricultural practices, impacts of environmental factors
on crop growth, and measurements of climate impacts on watersheds. Selected students
must be able to commit 6-10 hours/week to the program during the semester. Full time
employment during the summer is possible. Program participants may be expected to
participate in professional development workshops, and may be required to enroll in
some courses outside their majors to provide them with the background necessary to
carry out their research projects. Participation in the program is possible for up
to two years.
These positions are open to both graduate and undergraduate students. Preference will
be given to students majoring in a science or agricultural science field or geography.
For the undergraduate positions, students at the upper division level are preferred,
but all applicants will be considered.
